Caitlyn’s Pantry

I’m a stay-at-home mom to two small boys with a background in coffee. I enjoy crocheting and being outdoors, going on hikes and spending time at the beach. I really became interested in food and cooking when I was 11 or 12 after discovering Rachael Ray on the Food Network. My mom was a great cook and I’d spend a lot of time in the kitchen watching her and trying to help her. She’d show me how to cook something and I’d write down the steps in a notebook. My dad was a baker his entire life but unfortunately that skill skipped my generation.
Where do you like to shop for food?
New Seasons Market, Trader Joe’s, Safeway, Whole Foods, The Farmers Market. Basically anywhere.

What do you consider pantry staples?
Tallow, Apple Cider Vinegar, Dried Parsley, Cinnamon, Sweet Potatoes, something crunchy; rice cakes, pork rinds or potato chips,
popcorn.

What five items can always be found in your kitchen?
Lots of butter, tallow, cheese, fresh fruit, and sauerkraut.

What are your top three favorite kitchen tools?
Immersion blender, stand mixer (my pride & joy even though I hardly use it), and my veg/potato peeler.

What is the first thing you remember cooking?
Chicken in a brown gravy sauce over rice.

What’s your all-time favorite grocery store or market?
I’d visit Sprouts multiple times a day if we had a location in our area, but I do love going to New Seasons even though it’s not
always in our budget.

It’s a weekday and you need something quick. What do you make?
Cheeseburgers & baked sweet potato fries.

It’s a Sunday and you want to make something nice. What do you make?
Brisket or some type of roast, slow-cooked with carrot, onion, garlic & fresh herbs with a sauce made from the cooking liquid and a side of potatoes.

What is your favorite food memory?
Watching my mom cook. She makes the best Mexican food. I remember her making tacos and I could never understand how she’d turn the
tortilla into a shell, and when I would ask her, she’d tell me “magic!”. Then I realized she was just frying them slightly in oil and folding them in half.

How did you eat growing up? Did you have a favorite food?
Something simple my mom would make was fried potatoes mixed with cut-up hotdogs. Whenever I’m craving a comfort meal, I’ll make that. I also loved chili beans, Spanish rice, and hamburger helper.

If I opened your fridge, what would I see?
A mess. Lots of meat, yogurt, a couple of gallons of milk, condiments, apples, half and half, and leftovers.

Pop quiz:
Peanut butter or Nutella?
Peanut butter!
Take out or dining at a restaurant?
Restaurant.
Breakfast or dinner?
Breakfast.
Sweet or savory?
Depends, but probably savory.
Soup or salad?
Definitely salad.

Marisa’s Pantry

I’m a wife and mother of 3 beautiful children. We homeschool and enjoy being out in nature as much as possible. Whole, real, pesticide free food is very important to our family. I would say our style of cooking is ancestral, with bone broth, fermented foods and healthy fats being a top priority.
